The Lord of the Harvest
.... Evangelism is about sharing the gospel with unsaved persons, and leading them into a saving relationship with God through Jesus Christ. For the would-be evangelist, the most basic lesson is to understand this effort as a partnership, in which God Himself is the senior partner and we are, by far, the junior partners. For we may be the laborers in the field, but He Himself is the Lord of the Harvest (Matthew 9:38). The whole endeavor is His very own handiwork, and we are joining Him a very late stage. In fact, let’s start by examining what He accomplished long before we even became involved: .... From before the foundation of the world, God chose His only Son Jesus to be the savior of all mankind (Isaiah 42:1; Ephesians 1:4; 1 Timothy 4:10). This event is called the ‘election’, which we will discuss in detail in a posting soon-to-come. As the Lamb of God in heaven, Jesus was slain for our sins before time began, before mankind was even created, before there was ever a need (Revelation 13:8). So when man was created and later fell into sin, the way of our redemption was already prepared. This was done so that God might be glorified in Jesus alone, as we all came to God through Him (Romans 11:36).
.... And to insure that we would one day connect with Jesus, when we heard of Him, God hid something of the knowledge of Christ deeply inside each one of us:
.... "That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world"
(John 1:9)
.... Thus in the days to come, when we would first hear the good news of Jesus Christ, that message would touch deeply on this hidden knowledge that was already within us, match it, and confirm it to us in an eerie way. From deeply within ourselves we’d know that we had just heard the truth (1 Corinthians 2:13; see 1 Corinthians 14:25). And this would be so, even if we did not receive Jesus at the time (see Proverbs 25:21-22).
.... So when the Lord uses you in evangelism, realize that your message is always getting through to your listener at some level, even if it is not acknowledged at once. God may bring your words back to them in quiet, thoughtful moments in the days to come. And if you've shown a humble confidence in the Lord the whole time, He will add a special testimony above all, and it's something each of you will understand from deeply within yourselves:
.... "Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ . . . not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God."
(Philippians 1:27-28)
.... Through this added testimony (which comes through your confidence in God) you will both know that you are saved, but they are still in their sins; and you will both perceive that this understanding has come to you from the Lord Himself. But the intention is not to condemn anyone. Your listener can be saved, if only they will humble themselves and repent, and seek Him as you have done.

Looking back, I remember some occasions before I was saved when someone tried to share the gospel with me. I didn’t really understand it, but I knew from deeply within that something important was being said. The feeling was subtle, but there was a knowing that an appointment of sorts was taking place; that this was the understanding that determines one’s destiny; that this was the big mystery of life, and I was being allowed a glimpse of it. Some sort of plan from beyond was unfolding a little more, to touch me. Afterward, I actually forgot most of what was shared; but this feeling remained as I would think back to those occasions again – and it still revives to this day, as I think back to them again.

I was once sharing the gospel in my home town of Lubbock, in a place where the high school and college kids hang out. I had gone with some friends for this purpose. But on this occasion we were distracted by an older man, early thirties, who was hanging out with them. He had been drinking and was very argumentative. I spoke to him while my friends spoke to the others.
This fellow was a bruiser. He was a construction worker, and had actually poured the pavement we were standing on. We spoke for several minutes and he was very contentious, including several thinly veiled threats to my person. But the Lord had given me a supernatural calm – in fact, I was so unafraid I was almost cocky, I had to reign it in so I could share the gospel properly!
Finally he blurted out, ‘You have NO PROOF that any of this is true! You have no proof!!!’ and the Lord put the answer in my mouth:
“Here’s the proof.” said I, quoting Philippians 1:27,28. “I’ve been sharing the gospel, and you’ve already threatened me several times – but I’ve not been afraid in any way. So we both know something now, and it comes to each of us from God, in a way that neither of us can deny:
“We both know, from deeply within ourselves, that I am saved. But we also know that you are in your sins – and you can’t possibly deny it!” The look on his face said it all as he tried and tried to object, but could only swallow his words each time. The conversation ended on that note, but I hope he thought about this some more and came to the Lord when he sobered up.

Hi Loren,
First I want to thank you for stopping by my brand new blog (Laura's Leap) and giving your encouragement and advice. The comment about writing made my day. I still hope to be a writer "when I grow up"
I spent time reading through much of what you have written and find it intriging. I can relate to people knowing deep within when the truth is being presented. As a teenager, I was home one day when my parents entertained old friends. Just looking at them, I knew there was something different, something important that I needed to know. I also think this feeling is not just for the unsaved, but for us all whenever God is bringing us to a place of deeper revelation in him. As I search to know Him better, I fequently come across people I instinctivly know have a piece of the puzzle that I need. Its like a Holy Spirit geiger counter registering off the charts.
I, like MaryAnn M. am also dying to hear your 13 false teachings, although I have a pretty good idea I know what a few of them are.
The whole thing about two basic mind sets in the church seems to be coming so very clear. There are those who are desperate to know Jesus to the death of all other pursuits, and there are those who are comfortable with their religion and do not want it disrupted. The further I go into this journey of discovery, rereading my Bible over and over, each time asking myself, "what does that really say?" the more I am willing to lay down what I'd always thought and trade it in for truth, even if its uncomfortable. Butunfortunatly I have found a distance growing between myself and some of my old friends. While I still love them, they just do not understand why I have become so unsatisfied with the status quo. There seems to be no way to explain my holy frustration to them, so I pray they too will become unsatified with "a form of godliness that denies the power there-of"
All the best to you. I love your idea of teaching that encompasses the wisdom of many! I have a few newly saved friends I will send to your web site
Thanks again
Laura

Hi Laura,
Thanks for stopping by. I love the things you wrote here, too! I think if Christians can tie their own experiences to some of these postings, it will give future readers a much better 'feel' for what they mean.
Maryann has the list of the 13 false teachings if you can talk her into giving them to you. Or you might look at the break-out module on the end-time heresies, they're pretty easy to figure out from there.
Unfortunately I'm in the process of packing and I'll be out of town until Tuesday night, or I'd spend some more time chatting. But yes, please do send your new Christian friends as well, it's for them more than anyone else.
Hope to talk to you again soon!
