The Law and a New Creation

.... To complete this module let’s return, once again, to the heart and origin of the law. Based on the concept that "from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks," God gave the law as a re- flection of His own character (Luke 6:45). Basically, He was telling us what He would have done in each of those situations. Since His Divine nature was the source of the law, it is also higher than the law, though the law does mirror His heart and mind very naturally (1 Corinthians 13:12). As such, we know that the law is holy, just and good (Romans 7:12).
.
....
But for man, the comparison is different. Our flesh is so weak that we can never fulfill the law in our own strength (Romans 8:3). Yet through the new life Jesus gives and the grace He supplies in response to our faith, God takes us to His own, higher perspective on the law, by changing our very nature from within us:

.... "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

.... ". . . by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature . . ."
(2 Peter 1:4)
.... Through Jesus Christ, as a new creation, we now have the same nature as our heavenly Father. Notice, therefore, the same natural correlation between our new nature and the righteous requirements of the law:

.... "But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

(Jeremiah 31:33-34)

.... And here is another point of similarity. Just as God, by His Divine nature, is above the law (though the law still matches His nature perfectly,) we, as partakers of the same Divine nature, are no longer under the law (though our lives and the righteous requirements of the law still match each other naturally).

.... "Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law."

(Romans 3:31)

.... Just as we saw in the example of Jesus Himself, in His relationship with the Father, our hearts are now knit with God’s in a way that truly knows Him, harking back to the original intention behind the law, which was to share our lives with Him. For this is both the true intention and true benefit. Rather than doing works in order to have a relationship with God, we begin with the relationship itself and the works follow it naturally, by His grace, like fruit that grows naturally on a tree:

.... "But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter."

(Romans 7:6)

.... "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation."

(Galatians 6:15)

  • Brother have you ever done a deep study on Mark chapter 12?

I am so glad you have covered all of this. I pray it will be helpful in order that people actually drink the new wine.

Intresting that Mark 12 begins with the vinedressers and moves immediatly to questions regarding the Law. Then to the liberal questionings as to the authenticity of the Word and the ressurection. The two greatest commandments are brought up. Jesus tells one of the scribes"You are not far..."

What or WHo is the Key to fit the Keyhole of the Commandments? Can it be found in intelligentsia and theology? Enter the importance of the scribes not understanding How David could say, "The LORD said to my Lord."

Why couldn't they see this brother? Why?

    Here is the answer:
"Beware of the Scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, who devour widows houses, and for a *pretense* make long prayers. These will recieve greater condemnation." Mark 12:38-40

We then end with the widows mite.

  • Hi Loren, great teaching, as usual. I don't know how to email you, so I am leaving a comment. Earl asked you a question on my comments and it is way down at the bottom of the pile ... under an entire article, no less! Thanks for your great thoughts!

  • Hi Rose,

I sent him a brief reply.

Actually, in 1989 I studied out the whole spectrum of soteriology from the perspective of Christ, and wrote up a basic report about it. I'm intending to make it a module next year, but maybe I'll make it a break-out module in the meantime.

You know how it is when you wrote something a long time ago, and it's been a long time since you've looked it over. You'd kind of like to review it before you put it out there for anyone else to see.

  • Hi Brian!

I've studied Mark 12, but you know how the Lord always has something deeper to show you! I hadn't seen that before, praise the Lord!

  • Amen Loren!
    Something else YHVH showed me.

The old commandment was to love others as we love ourselves. This cannot be fulfiled on this side of the door looking through through the keyhole drinking the old wine.
It is why Yeshua said, "You are not far.."

The New commandment? Love as I have loved you. This commandment is impossible to fulfill drinking the old wine. You must first *Know* Him. The gift is Himself and that is His grace of Him. You must first recieve his love in order to love as He loved. You cannot do this dwelling on facts and figures. You must dwell in Him and on His truth. 1+1=2 is a fact but it is not truth. The truth is God can feed the Five Thousand with just a few loaves and a few fish. That is reality. The earth is passing away. IOW if they found the missing link I would still believe God is and His Scripture is true and that evidence is false. This world is a curse. They won't find it but I say that to make a point. As a man once said, "Faith is not believing He can, it is knowing He will." Jews request a sign and Greeks seek wisdom; but we preach Christ...Foolishness to the world. We cannot try to make this foolishness seem as wisdom to others by the adulteration of any methodology or any humanism whatever voice may call us there.

Oh brother continue to keep the focus on Yeshua. Never lose sight. I know you won't. Call us out of darkness and into the light. May his voice ring through this blog. Nothing else matters brother. Sould I say no one else matters.

  • Hi Brian,

I sure your miss your blogging, you're one of the most Christ-centrered brothers I know. Amen! Jesus didn't just show us the Way, He IS the way! The truth and the life! Amen!

  • May Yehovah be glorified in whatever good surfaces from me and may he continue to burn away our dross so that only His reflection is beheld. May God bless you brother for your encouragement and kindness to Him.
